Are you building or remodeling a home for you and your (future) family? As a family with children, you spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Therefore, consider not only aesthetics, but also practicality and safety. With these 10 tips you can create a baby proof and child-friendly bathroom!

1. Sufficient and safe storage space

Sufficient storage space is not a luxury in the bathroom. Towels, washcloths, toiletries, bath toys, you need to be able to store it all. You don't want a box of toys or other products lying around in the bathroom. Therefore, choose a wide vanity combined with a column cabinet. Make sure you store potential hazards in the cabinets or drawers so they are out of reach of little hands. Also, choose soft-close drawers for maximum safety.

2. A comfortable and safe bathtub

Your child will spend a lot of time in the bathtub, so it is important that they are comfortable and can get in and out easily. Consider a lowered tub or step around the tub so they can easily climb in and out without slipping or falling out. If you have more than one child, go for a spacious bathtub so that two of them can get in. That will save a lot of time and hassle!

A child-friendly bathtub has rounded corners and a soft surface that you can easily clean with soap and water. If possible, avoid bathtubs with jets or other features that pose a drowning risk to small children.

3. Good ventilation

Ensure proper ventilation in a baby proof bathroom so that your child does not get hot or stuffy while bathing. A ventilation system is also important to prevent damp air and resulting mold, ensuring good health for the whole family.

4. Durable materials

5. Non-slip bath mats in the bathroom

With all this bathing fun, there's bound to be a lot of water in the bathroom, so be careful! A simple tip is to place anti-slip mats in front of the bath and shower entrances to prevent the kids and you from slipping!

6. Bathroom cabinet with double sink

For a family with children, a double sink is definitely a must. This way you can share the bathroom with several family members and save extra time. Your kids can brush their teeth while you can get ready, for example! Also consider a step for the smaller children.

7. Corner protectors

Make sure to protect sharp corners and edges with corner protectors, especially when your child starts crawling and walking. Parents also benefit from corner protectors, so you can't stub your little toe!

8. A spacious walk-in shower or shower cabin

A bathtub is easy for washing babies and young children, while a shower is more convenient once your children can stand. So choose a spacious walk-in shower or shower cabin where you and your child can shower comfortably at the same time. No room for a bathtub and shower? Then go for a bath-shower combination, such as the Still Shower with lower bath rim.

9. A child-proof tap: the thermostatic faucet

To prevent quick little hands from getting burned, it's best to choose thermostatic faucets. Thermostatic bath and shower faucets have a temperature limiter that is locked at 38°. To increase the temperature, you push the knob and turn the faucet to the desired temperature.

10. Sufficient lighting

We already talked about the type of lighting, namely LED, but how much lighting is best to provide in a child-friendly bathroom? Natural light makes the bathroom a pleasant place, but it's not enough. Also go for artificial lighting, such as a recessed spotlight in the shower, mirror lighting and waterproof ceiling lighting.
